This week the DLMOOC focused on academic mindset. I was completely immersed in thoughts about mindsets all week. I tweeted earlier that my Mother raised me to believe I could do anything if I set my mind to it. This idea became my mindset. I am tenacious when others would give up. I raised 3 smart, well-adjusted children alone for 10 years, climbed out of debt and bankruptcy caused by divorce, and bought a house on my own 8 years later. I've worked every job one can imagine (legal of course) including fast food, retail, Radio DJ, Wedding DJ, Leader Singer in bands, Music Director, Church Cantor, Voice Teacher, Administrative Assistant in two Insurance companies, Certified Elementary Teacher, Music Teacher, Librarian (Catholic Schools will take you for any skills you demonstrate w/o actual credentials ;) I have a BA in Business and Economics, an MS in Early Childhood Education and am here with all of you overachievers for this IT&DML ride. I can guess each one of us that has persevered on this path has a Growth Mindset.
But not everyone was so lucky to have a parent who believed in them, and taught them to believe in themselves. And few schools provide the support for students to thrive in a school culture that promotes a growth mindset. I am pleased with my Storify this week. Cue the music and enjoy:
