I am on a quest to encourage teachers of elementary, middle and high school students to use gaming to accelerate their curriculum. Students today spend 30+ hours a week, equivalent to a part time job, online gaming, on communicating on social networks, watching and creating videos on YouTube. At their computers they are in the driver's seat. They are thinking creatively and critically, problem solving, challenging themselves, struggling, failing, persevering, and succeeding. Their motivation is intrinsic. They are fully engaged and learning. Isn't that what we want them to do in school?
Through my graduate course work at UNH and participation in a Deeper Learning MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) I have found a wealth of information to share with educators and administrators supporting why we need to change the way we teach today's digital natives. Here is a Storify that presents the resources I've curated this week.
