My 12 year old son has taught himself endless things through reading and watching videos online. He has learned how to play the beginning to Fur Elise on the piano, learned violin techniques for his school lessons; he's learned gaming hints, tips and cheats...and now narrates his own videos on his own YouTube channel. He listens to dub step music and dabbles in creating music for his videos. He has taught himself 3-D graphic design that is amazing. And I??? I was still reading the manuals, the directions, the hard copy....not anymore. This Networked Learning Project has opened my mind, made me step out of my comfort zone, and set me free...to learn and explore in a a whole new way...
Using the internet to gather information, watching videos of experts telling how to decorate with fondant, showing me as they explain, giving hints to avoid problems... worked beautifully to teach me something new. to allow me to watch and then do was invaluable. We need to remember this EVERY DAY in classrooms across the country, giving freedom AND guidelines to allow students to learn in a way that is relevant to them.
I have created power point presentation of my project. We had so much fun. Please watch and enjoy!! CLICK HERE: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1zLvZuvfSniDm77n4UE1X7knDRgxKJnAOe0lcHFSNY8A/edit#slide=id.p
